Delta Chi unveils “Core Competencies” Strategic Initiative

“This spring, the Fraternity is restructuring how we discuss chapter performance. The “core competency” model recognizes eight core functions of a successful chapter, and organized all common activities to fall within one of those core categories.

The eight core competencies are:

Advising & Governance
Alumni Relations
Financial Management
Housing
Involvement
Manpower
Membership Education
Scholarship

By design, the core competencies illustrate that fraternal issues are often interconnected. We will promote the core competencies as a way for our chapters and colonies to build consistent, purposeful action leading to an improved fraternity experience over time. Chapter/Colony visitation reports have been updated to reflect this new approach. Colonies will now notice eight sections for their chartering petition outline, rather than the previous ten. The “Awards Packet” has been redesigned as the “Awards and Recognition Program,” and features a focus on the core competencies.

From a technical standpoint, over time the core competencies model will allow us to shift focus to data-driven metrics when discussing chapter/colony performance. We intend to develop new methods of analysis in the future to make our Consultant Program more intentional. We’ll also be moving towards an “accreditation” status with our awards, seeking to have every chapter work towards reaching either “achievement” or “excellence” status in each of the eight core competencies..”

Look for updates throughout the spring and summer as we update our officer resources to reflect this new approach! Questions regarding this strategic initiative should be directed to Michael Dean, Director of Educational Programming
