Chartering Requirements

Each colony is expected to meet all chartering requirements and submit a chartering petition within the first two (2) years of its existence. It is unfair to grant a charter to a new colony before the members have learned how to successfully operate and maintain the organization.  Couple this idea with a great support staff and hours of training time with Leadership Consultants, and it is easy to see why Delta Chi has one of the highest expansion success rates in the NIC.  Delta Chi expects a great deal from our colonies, because each one of them has the opportunity to impact its respective Greek system and the Fraternity.

Receiving the charter, while a very important landmark for a colony, should only be a milestone, rather than an end-goal.  A simple way to think about the chartering process is that when a colony acts like a chapter, it becomes one.  In an effort to reduce the time and energy required by colonies to create lengthy chartering petitions, the Board of Regents has simplified the process of charter review. This has also proven to reduce the likelihood of a new chapter experiencing any “post-chartering complacency.”  This process has been extremely successful since its implementation in 2004.

A colony will prepare a written petition addressing each of the ten (10) chartering objectives, as outlined in the Colony BRIEF. The main body of the petition should be no longer than ten (10) single-spaced pages, allowing one page for each chartering objective. The petition should provide evidence that the objective has been met, but, more importantly, it should include plans to continue to improve in each area.
