In the Greek world, expansion can be defined as creating new chapters or re-establishing old ones, in an effort to expand that fraternity’s realm of influence and to grow its membership.
We are proud to say that our expansion program is one of the best in the interfraternal world. In fact, more than half of our chapters were established within the last 25 years, and in the past four years we boast an impressive 91% expansion success rate.
Delta Chi differs from other international fraternities of similar size and reputation, in that all colony members, including Founding Fathers, are initiated prior to chartering. Typically, a Founding Father class will be initiated within the same academic term, depending on the timeline for that specific expansion.
We credit our success to two main factors. First, Delta Chi provides an extraordinary amount of time and resources to expansions and the colonies created by those expansions. Delta Chi’s expansion team consists of three staff members on site to oversee the recruitment, membership education, officer appointment and training, and initiation of the Founding Fathers. This process typically takes four weeks, with a staff member scheduled later in the semester to conduct a one-week return visit coupled with the initiation of the Founding Fathers. Colonies then receive at least two visits per year from a member of Delta Chi’s staff until chartered.
Second, the Fraternity builds a positive relationship with area alumni, as well as university officials and the Interfraternity Council. As a part of every expansion, Delta Chi recruits and educates alumni advisors for the new colony. We also spend a considerable amount of time meeting with university officials and IFC officers to better understand campus policies and available resources. This preparation allows Delta Chi to hit the ground running once the actual expansion begins.
