A Tradition of Leadership Development
Since Delta Chi's founding in 1890, the work of its members has been that of making themselves and their communities better. Through a variety of leadership programs, Delta Chi regional and international gatherings, written materials, and the Delta Chi KEY Program, the reinforcement of Delta Chi's values encourages quality leadership skills.
International Convention
The first Delta Chi Convention was held in 1894 at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Since then, the attendance and popularity of the greatest gathering of Delta Chi brothers has continued to grow. The Convention is the assembly at which Delta Chi Law is debated and amended; international officers are elected; professional speakers present on a variety of personal development, chapter management and values-based topics; and awards are presented to chapters and colonies that have made great accomplishments. The President's Cup (the highest award a Delta Chi chapter can receive) is presented in person by the International President at a black tie banquet. It is an amazing and uplifting experience one does not soon forget.
Delta Chi Leadership College
During non-Convention summers, Delta Chi hosts a leadership college held in Iowa City, IA, home of the Fraternity's International Headquarters. The Leadership College differs from the Convention in that it provides one consistent experience for all attendees (whereas the Convention allows attendees to pick from a variety of interesting presentations). The Leadership College is focused on three fundamental skills: individual values clarification, setting and accomplishing goals, and mastering confrontation skills. With these three skills, running a Delta Chi chapter and being successful in life come naturally. The Educational Foundation provides scholarships for attendees to encourage undergraduates to participate.
Regional Leadership Conference (RLC)
Delta Chi chapters and colonies are geographically grouped into nine regions, and each region holds a leadership conference every spring semester. The chapter or colony hosting the RLC is selected at the previous year's conference, and the conference includes presentations on scholarship, values, recruitment, and other topics of interest. It also includes a full Ritual exemplification, to ensure every chapter is performing the Ritual correctly.
The KEY Program
Through membership in Delta Chi, you are offered a well-rounded opportunity for personal growth through brotherhood. The KEY Program is designed to provide members with a co-curricular experience throughout their undergraduate days and beyond.
One of the program's primary goals is "to develop in the fraternity a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth," as evident in the program's slogan- "Keep Educating Yourself." In other words, the skills learned today will never be forgotten, and the members will always continue to build on these and future experiences.
Delta Chi wants to give each of its members the key to developing the necessary skills for successfully managing life's many challenges and taking advantage of the many opportunities on your campus and in your surrounding community.
The goal of this program is simple: To help each member of Delta Chi grow and develop as an individual.
Achievement Series
Some of the problems that a chapter may face from time to time (financial management, member motivation, hazing prevention, chapter organization, etc.) are not unique to any one fraternity. Delta Chi is a leader in interfraternal materials, one of which is the collection of articles called the Achievement Series. This collection discusses specifically what it takes to have a successful chapter; the benefits of having good brothers, not good pledges; holding members accountable to the values of Delta Chi and chapter fundraising, just to name a few.
The Cornerstone
One of the most treasured possessions of a Delta Chi is his membership reference manual, the Cornerstone. This small, red, hardbound book contains everything a Delta Chi needs to be an effective member of a chapter and beyond. Most members keep it readily available on their bookshelves as undergraduates and, as alumni, can provide a time capsule of memories from their undergraduate days. It truly provides the cornerstone for a member's experience in Delta Chi.
Subjects included in the Cornerstone:
- The Ten Basic Expectations and Preamble of Delta Chi,
- The history of Greek life and Delta Chi,
- Delta Chi's spiritual founder: Sir Edward Coke,
- The Greek alphabet,
- An index of all fraternity and sorority badges and new member pins,
- The structure of The Delta Chi Fraternity, Inc.,
- The Delta Chi chapter today,
- The role of an alumnus,
- Order of business and parliamentary procedure,
- The essence of good taste and professional etiquette,
- Index of past international officers, Order of the White Carnation members, and officers emeriti,
- A glossary of Greek terms,
- Delta Chi songs, chants and whistle.
Delta Chi BRIEF system
The BRIEF system is a collection of reference materials on topics from committee systems to alumni relations, and from scholarship to new member education. The BRIEFs are some of the highest quality written materials of any social fraternity and have been the benchmark for written programming for many other organizations. The name, "BRIEF," harkens back to our law fraternity history as well as indicates the concise nature in which each topic is covered.
