Keep Educating Yourself
Implementation
How do I begin?
The KEY is a very comprehensive individual development program. It addresses issues relevant to each individual member, the Fraternity; your chapter; the college or university, and the community. The KEY's mastery components are designed for each brother to grow in four key personal development sections. Each member opens his own doors of opportunity and growth, using the Delta Chi's KEY program.
The steps for beginning and implementing the program are the following:
1. Read and review all of the online material regarding The KEY, then download your Learning Journal here. The Learning Journal is a Microsoft Excel® workbook and will be your tool for capturing your plans and actions, while it also serves as a checklist for those activities you have already completed.
2. Once you have downloaded the Learning Journal, walk through each Area of Mastery. You may have already completed some of the activities through previous personal experiences or chapter activities. For example, if you have already been using a time management tool, such as a FranklinCovey® day planner, then you have probably completed at least two of the activities within the Organization & Planning Area of Mastery. Simply write a quick note in each of the activities' corresponding boxes and check them off on your checklist.
3. Now, you are on your way. Progress through The KEY completing activites and achieving mastery over each of the areas. To achieve mastery of each area:
- Read the entire area thoroughly. Keep in mind what you want to accomplish and learn with the program.
- Review the activities and provided sample options. Then decide which options you will attempt for each activity's successful completion. Remember to review your thoughts with your Big Brother for his feedback.
- Complete each activity, then follow up your accomplishments in your Learning Journal.
- Conclude each area by reflecting on all completed activities and what you have learned by answering the questions on the Critical Reglection page following each Area of Mastery in your Learning Journal.
4. Once you have completed the entire workbook, thereby achieving mastery over all 12 Areas of Mastery, you have completed The KEY. In recognition of your accomplishment you will have earned the right to wear the Delta Chi KEY Badge Guard. It signifies the man who truly has "the hand that grasps the key." While pinned to a man's shirt, this symbol represents the true meaning of The KEY program. While the guard will always protect against the falling of a member's badge from his chest, the skills learned through The KEY program will always serve to hold high the Delta Chi initiate. To receive your KEY Badge Guard, simply mail or email a copy of your Learning Journal into the Delta Chi Headquarters Office for verification purposes. Then complete a program evaluation. Upon receiving a copy of your Learning Journal and a program evaluation, you will be sent the KEY Badge Guard you have earned the right to wear.
The KEY is a total membership development program that provides personal management, ethical leadership and professional preparation opportunities to all undergraduate members, regardless of their year in school or number of years in the chapter- So, you thought that you were finished with your Delta Chi education once you finished your associate member program? Well, associate member education has given you a solid foundation for membership and the information you need to know to be a contributing member of the fraternity. The KEY will provide you with the skills that will help you be successful as:
- An initiate of Delta Chi;
- A student at your college or university;
- A leader on campus and/or in the community;
- A graduate seeking your first job; and
- An alumnus brother of Delta Chi.
