For Immediate Release
Iowa City, Iowa - The Delta Chi International Fraternity - with headquarters in Iowa City, Iowa - has suspended its University of Colorado Chapter. This suspension comes as a result of activities that took place in Estes Park on February 16 and 17, 2008. The suspension, effective immediately, ceases all chapter operations pending an internal investigation into those activities.
"One of the ten Basic Expectations of any Delta Chi is to hold his brother accountable for his actions," Ray Galbreth, Executive Director of The Delta Chi Fraternity, Inc., said. "Delta Chi as an international organization will hold our members accountable for their actions. We will conduct a thorough investigation in accordance with the due process established in our constitution, by-laws and regulations, and appropriate actions will be taken as a result of that investigation."
"Delta Chi believes very strongly in providing a quality fraternity experience for young men, "Galbreth continued. "Delta Chi does not condone nor tolerate activities inconsistent with the values of strong moral character, leadership, educational excellence, and civic responsibility."
Since there is currently an ongoing criminal investigation, Delta Chi will conclude its review once the criminal justice system has taken its course.
Delta Chi's purpose is to promote friendship, develop character, advance justice, and assist in the acquisition of a sound education. The earliest commitment a man makes to the organization is to reflect credit upon himself and esteem upon his associates.
Originally founded as a law fraternity at Cornell University in 1890, Delta Chi still holds as its cardinal principle the observance of and respect for the law. Delta Chi is part of the seventy-one member North-American Interfraternity Conference and has 128 chapters and colonies and over 92,000 initiated members across the United States and Canada.
